In Spain, a well-known tire manufacturer is not content to produce ecological tires but has decided to become totally eco-sustainable by installing a biomass plant to produce the thermal energy it needs for the process of regenerating used tires: an efficient and ecological way to make your production process green.

The installation of the biomass boiler almost eliminates the consumption of fossil fuels, replacing them with the generation of energy through dried native pruning branches, such as palm trees, pines or even Mediterranean algae. In this way, the tire company contributes even more to tackling climate change and other environmental challenges: since it is a biomass coming from forest residues, this also helps to reduce the risk of fires. Moreover, it allows a more efficient use of natural resources and promotes progress towards a more sustainable energy model. Furthermore, since it is a local fuel, this allows to avoid the importation of fossil fuels, favoring the local economy, the care of forests and the protection of the planet.

The steam boiler made by Uniconfort is installed at the Alicante site, where the regeneration process of car and truck tires takes place: 100% of the thermal energy used for this process is now produced by biomass.

The usage of biomass as a renewable energy source has environmental and economic advantages, such as:

• Reduction of pollutants emissions such as CO, HC and NOX;

• Reduction of sulfur and particulate emissions;

• Economic savings on energy costs, which varies from 25% to 60%.

It can be said that the tire regeneration plant has become an example of ecological sustainability for the sector, demonstrating the possibility of reducing its dependence on fossil fuels
