LEADERSHIP E COMPETITIVITY
Mazana Group is a leading company in terms of sustainability in the production of animal food. It has achieved “zero emissions” through a process that lasted more than a decade, reducing its energy consumptions and raw materials.
WILL TO IMPROVE
Mazana Group is a family business group based in Capella (Huesca), a small town in the region of Ribagorza (Huesca). At the present, the activities of the group goes from the selection and genetic improvement to the sale of fattening pigs, integrating agriculture, transport and feed production activities. The production of animal food is a strategic field: given its significant economic weight on the final cost of the product, it is a key element in the pig breeding process.
THE OPPORTUNITY
Nowadays, to be a competitive and leading organization, energy efficiency in service and production is not only an important value, but it is also a social and environmental obligation. As a record of its constant innovation process, Mazana Group completed its second industrial biomass plant officially launched in August 2018 (the first was installed in October 2010 in the factory in Capella). The new UNICONFORT biomass boiler, with its steam generation of 4,000 kg / hour at an operating pressure of 12 bar and its capability to guarantee the CONTINUOUS availability of 8,000 hours of non-stop service, has replaced the old oil boiler. Without any doubt, this is the last step of the group to produce feeds with neutral carbon emissions, an European eco-label for its product, an historical turning point for the Oscense plant (1966) which currently has a production of over 500,000 tons of animal feed per year. The entire process has allowed the Mazana Group to reduce production costs and increase the value of the product with a powerful message of sustainability.
TECHNOLOGY AND SAFETY 360°
This means to stop consuming 2,930 MWh / year of diesel, with a saving of over 58% and at the same time to consume 2,000 tons / year of forestry wood chips of the region (biomass at zero km). The wood is PEFC certified and it comes from managed forests. A zero value is assigned in the emission of carbon dioxide CO2 if the quantity of gas released in combustion is the same that it’s taken by a plant for its own photosynthesis process. Thanks to UNICONFORT technology, the boiler will be able to reach the limit of chipboard humidity by a maximum of 50%, without reducing its nominal power. The adiabatic combustion chamber of the UNICONFORT boiler, with COGENERATIVE GEOMETRY, is equipped with a mobile, modulating and graded grid, consisting of fire grates chemically composed of a specific heat-resistant alloy manufactured to withstand high temperatures, with alternate translation operation, so to guarantee the distribution of the fuel and its transport from the exit of the supply system to the ash collection point once the combustion process has been completed.
