REAL ACTIONS FOR A SUSTAINABLE FUTURE

This is the thinking of Liven company in Spain, which has invested in environmental sustainability by building one of the largest biomass plants in central Catalonia. Liven is a salty snack manufacturer and supplier to large food multinational companies. To pursue the sustainability objectives, the Catalan group has decided to install a biomass plant supplied by Uniconfort that produces the necessary steam for the various production processes: this lead to a decrease in energy costs and an increase in production capacity.

THE BIOMASS PLANT IS ALREADY IN OPERATION

The plant has a total power of 3,500 kW and produces 5,000 kg / hour of saturated steam (between 8 and 12 Bar) and superheated water through an exchanger. Thanks to this project, the company promotes the cleaning of local woods, consolidating its commitment to the environment. The fuel, in fact, comes entirely from the sustainable management of local forests in Catalonia: about 5,000 tons of wood chips per year. The commissioning of the plant has also resulted in significant economic savings, in addition to the positive impact on the environment.

A PROJECT AWARDED AS ENERGY EFFICIENCY

In 2015, the Government of Catalonia awarded Liven as “Energy Excellence with Biomass”. The Minister of Enterprise and Employment today presented the Energy Excellence Awards, organized by the Government of Catalonia, through the Catalan Institute of Energy (ICAEN), to recognize companies that have carried out exceptional projects or actions in the field of energy saving, energy efficiency, the promotion of renewable energies and new energy technologies. Liven received a special mention from the jury in the category "Excelencia Energética con actuación / proyecto" (energy excellence with action / project) for its commitment to biomass as an energy source for its industrial process.
