In Calabria, the waste from a sawmill is used for heating a hotel

We had a very unique experience in Calabria. The owner of a hotel in San Giovanni in Fiore, in the province of Cosenza - a territory not reached by natural gas network, has decided to discard the expensive diesel plant to switch to biomass for production of ther-mal energy. A choice that is leading the way in a region so rich in forests like this one, where proper management can result in an inexhaustible source of biomass.

SAVINGS FOR THE COMPANY AND EMISSIONS REDUCED TO ZERO

A choice which is not only “green”, since emissions harmful to the environment are reduced to zero, but also a winning proposition from an economic point of view. The biomass in the market have a cost that is lower in comparison to traditional fuels. It allows amortization of plants in three to five years from savings thereof.

ALSO, A LOCAL SAWMILL IS RECIEVING BENEFIT

In case of our hotel, the savings from the purchase of fuel are even higher. The hotel saves about 60% on its energy bill, through an agreement with a local sawmill; selling the production wastes (thereby freeing a cost that is instead becoming an economic resource) at a cost lower than that of biomass available in the market.

AN AD HOC BOILER

Uniconfort accompanied the contractor immediately. It verified the availability of fuel and tested its heating capacity in the laboratories of St. Martin of Lupari, then it designed the plant based on customer needs and installed an Uniconfort Cmt S30 boiler of 300,000 Kcal and 348 kW thermal power. The hot water produced is used for the thermal requirements of the hotel, and the pool - whose water, thanks to the plant, is kept at room temperature.
