Bacardi has chosen to install a Uniconfort boiler at one of its plant in England
Bacardi drinks have made a ‘green’ choice: the famous multinational manufacturer of alco-holic beverages has decided to install a Uniconfort boiler fuelled by solid biomass at one of its production sites in England. This decision not only leads to a decrease of CO2 emitted into the atmosphere, but also halves the energy costs of the manufacturing process.
“GREEN”...ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES
Bacardi is a multinational world leader in the production of gin and other alcoholic beverages, with several locations in many countries. In England, its largest supplier is The Bombay Drinks Company, famous for Blue Sapphire Gin. The British company has had to face the rising costs of the oil that fuelled its bottle sterilisation plant. These increases threatened the profitability of the business. Driven by the incentives provided for by English law as well as the ‘green’ characteristics of solid biomass, the company turned to Uniconfort.
A VERSATILE BOILER...
Uniconfort designed a plant capable of using different materials as fuel so as to protect the company from possible increased costs of biomass: pellets available on the market as well as recycled wood chips and small percentages of waste vegetable residues from the Sapphire Gin production process. It is a seemingly complex design, but not for the Venetian company - the only company in the world able to exploit energy from production waste and other fuels in the same system.
...THAT PRODUCES SUBSTANTIAL SAVINGS
The boiler is able to burn 1,500 kilograms of fuel per hour for a thermal power of 1 MW of electric power and 900,000 kilocalories. The saving on the energy account is 45%, which reaches 60% after adding government incentives. The company will amortise the investment in just 30 months!
NOT ONLY ZERO EMISSIONS OF CO2...
The design took the limitations on emissions of gases and ash into account and complies with the strictest English regulations: NOx (nitrogen oxide) is below 150 mg/mm3, and fine particles below 60 mg/mm3.
THE RESULT?
Bacardi is so happy with their very first experience with biomass that they are already planning to replicate it at other production sites. The return for the company is not only economic: using green energy has strong implications on the company image!
